Hello,

Just finished installing Solaris 10 [ 2007 release ] on my IBM desktop.
I am not able to see CDE/GNOME GUI login screen.

It says The X server unable to start diaply at:0

I tried one command gdm2 something as per in some forum but now its throwing lots of error like gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: fatal X error -Restarting 0

Nothing happens.

I have install full package installation of Solaris 10.

Any hints ?

Regards,
Amey.

Amey,

I guess the question which everyones will be thinking is WHY Solaris 10,
since you could have driver problems?

Why not OpenSolaris.

Amey,

10, since you could have driver problems?
There are many reasons why one might still want to install Solaris 10
rather than OpenSolaris... admittedly this might not be the best place
to ask for help, although we're generally quite tolerant of S10
questions.

(I'm afraid I don't have any useful hints for the OP, though.)

Cheeri,
Calum.

Hello,

Thanx for quick reply. I thought of installing OpenSolaris 2008.11 version.
But requirement is Solaris 10. I am not using Solaris from long time thus dont no if kernel of Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris are exactly same? In short product which runs on Solaris 10 x86 platform will run without any problem on OpenSolaris x86 ?

And secondly I have only a CD of OpenSolaris. I'll need to download lots of packages I think.

I was unable to find DVD version of OpenSolaris 2008.11 version.

Any hints?

Developers want to build some cvs repo.

Regards,
Amey.

Thanx to all for valuable inputs.

Andrew: I am going to download that build you suggested.

che: Just surprised because I am using old intel x86 hardware i.e. 845 GL chipset and Intel graphics. Anyway. I am going to download latest build of Solaris i.e. 5/2009 release and will check.

Regards,
Amey.

Look in these files to see if there's any error messages or more info:
dtlogin: /var/dt/Xerrors
gdm: /var/log/gdm/:0.log
Xorg: /var/log/Xorg.0.log
